Twilight is Box Office powerhouse!
The power of the teen-tween audience cannot be denied!
As little as a week ago, forecasters were estimating that Twilight would bring in $45-60M in its opening weekend. Those guesses have proven to be way low as the teen vampire romance stormed the box office with a stunning haul of $70.5M. As you might expect, plans are already underway for multiple sequels. Quantum of Solace slumped badly in its second weekend ($27.4M/$109.4M) but still managed to edge newbie Bolt ($27M). Madagascar 2 ($16M/$137.4M) and Role Models ($7.2M/$48M) rounded out the top 5.

Top 10 holiday stocking stuffers for tweens!
According to suite101, the top 10 “stocking stuffers” for tweens this holiday seasons is a mix of gadgets, accessories and “High School Musical” related items. It seems they forgot to mention stuff related to “Twilight”—unless the book series or books counts. Jewelry is still in the top 10 as well as “favorite foods”. Anyways, here’s their list for stucking stuffers for tweens:
Anything High School Musical Related
High School Musical accessories seem to be topping the charts with tweens between the ages of 9 to 12. These popular items can range from watches to hair accessories. There are even mini digital cameras that would fit just perfect into a stocking.
Text and Chatting Devices
Text and chat toys are all the rage with this age group of young ladies. The devices allow tweens to communicate with friends who have the same device as long as they are within a certain area. There are no monthly fees or service plans required. These devices are the modern day walkie-talkie.
Computer Flash Drives
Collectible flash drives have now become a hit with tweens. Since many kids now operate computers on a daily basis, these cute flash drives can be very convenient. They come in many different shapes and sizes, such as animals and other fun shapes.
Makeup Sets
Makeup sets are always a hit in this age group. You can choose from beginner makeup kits or simple lip gloss and eye shadow sets. Many companies now make these sets in very light colors just for this group of young ladies. Add makeup remover products for an extra special touch.
Winter Accessories
Winter accessories are also very popular this holiday season. As a parent, you can kill two birds with one stone by placing stocking caps and gloves into the Christmas stocking this year. Funky scarves and gloves without fingertips seem to the big hits this winter season.
Jewelry
Jewelry can be another great gift for tween girls. As they are beginning to mature, jewelry will become a must-have item. This could be the perfect opportunity to give your daughter her first piece of real jewelry or maybe a purity ring. Of course, you can always go with jewelry kits, as girls this age still like making their own jewelry by hand.
Book Sets and Book Series
Books are always a hit with girls in this age group. Many new series are available on the market, or you may want to hunt down a classic set like the Babysitters Club. You can buy many of the more popular books in book bag size, so they will fit easily into a stocking as a gift. Consider the length of the books you buy and make sure they are appropriate for your child's reading level to make reading more enjoyable.
Bath Sets
Bath sets are yet another must have for tweens who are starting to pay close attention to appearance and style. Many sets will have everything needed for a spa-like bath setting. However, there are sets for hair care, bathing, and also cologne available this year.
Diary and Stationery
Diaries and stationary sets can also be a good choice for girls between the ages of 9 to 12. This group of girls is just starting to enjoy the process of writing letters and keeping a daily diary. Many sets are available that will include pens, stationary, stickers, and even a new diary.
Favorite Foods
Never doubt the power of candy or chocolate. No matter how mature these girls may be, everyone is a kid at heart when it comes to sweets. Pack your daughter's stocking with her favorite candies, gum, and chocolate bars.
Tween girls are at a fun age when mom and daughter can start connecting with similar topics. Use this Christmas to give your tween some fun things as stocking stuffers, and the two of you can have playing all day long.

For young fashion fans, the 1980s are back; '80s look in 'Hannah Montana' wardrobe
NEW YORK — As Miley Cyrus rocks out in the third season of "Hannah Montana," she channels Madonna circa 1985.
And, somehow, on this cute and playful 15-year-old, tiered miniskirts, leopard prints and fingerless gloves look good - so get ready for masses of mini-Montanas to emulate the look of the tween favourite, even if they are too young to know its true origin.
The look was created mostly for Cyrus's on-stage persona Hannah to wear, says costume designer Dalhia Foroutan, but hints of the '80s have crept into most of the cast's wardrobe.
The teenage stars are too young to remember ripped-neck sweatshirts or legwarmers the first time around, but they do recognize it as retro and think it's cool, she says.
Foroutan also works with Cyrus on her concert wardrobe and has also slipped in some intentional flashbacks from Madonna's "Lucky Star" and "Like a Virgin" days.
"I didn't like her (Madonna) so much in the '80s, but looking back, she was so new and different and she really influenced fashion in the '80s. I respect her for that," Foroutan says.
One of Madonna's great fashion legacies is that today's teens have adopted her well-crafted careless look.
"It's girlie, rocker, thrift shop. It says 'I don't care' but it took an hour to pile on and rip those fishnets. To anyone who knows anything about getting dressed, you knew it took a long time to put together, Foroutan says.
Cyrus says she's loving the style because there's a lot of room to put her own stamp on it - and if Cyrus wears it, so will countless others. (In the third quarter, "Hannah Montana" was the highest rated TV show for kids 6-11 and No. 2 for tweens 9-14, according to Nielsen Media Research provided by Disney Channel.)
"I can mix and match a cute shirt with some skinny jeans under a leather jacket and it looks fun and unique," Cyrus writes in an email to the AP. "That's why I love the signature leather gloves that are a part of the new Hannah look. I like to put my own style into what I wear mixed with something from the past."
It's probably not a coincidence that the '80s are back considering it's the mothers of millennials who wore highlighter-colour lace when they were coming of age.
The icons of the day include Olivia Newton John in her "Physical" gear, Molly Ringwald and "Flashdance's" Jennifer Beals.
Teen Vogue has shot a lot of outfits with this vibe already for spring, says fashion director Gloria Baume, and the magazine believes in it as a trend going forward. The runway shows of Marc by Marc Jacobs, DKNY and London's Christopher Kane furthered the return to the era of excess.
"I think the '80s were so maligned because it was a time of ostentatiousness, a time when everything was done to the top," Baume observes. "It was the first time for big gold chains and Rolexes, so much glitz and glamour. It represented what we think is bad taste today, while the '60s seemed more natural, spiritual. It was the '80s that led to the so minimal '90s."
Teens can learn from this to have fun with fashion and use it to express themselves.
But Baume also thinks this generation is simply more style savvy than those that came before it. "The '80s look is safe with these girls. They know too much to have the bad taste that we had ... these girls just don't have the bad taste in their DNA."
How to wear Hannah Montana's 1980s look
Some of the pieces that were cool for teens in the 1980s are cool again today.
Here's how to wear them for 2008:
-Keep things age-appropriate.
"Hannah Montana" costume designer Dahlia Foroutan recommends a tiered miniskirt and a top with volume, such as a puffy-sleeve shirt, and a wide belt. No high heels, she says, but ballet flats and Converse sneakers would look great.
And some '80s styles were too mature for teens - big shoulders and high necklines - even though girls wore them, Foroutan notes. In 2008, you'd be well advised to tone down some of that or risk looking more "Working Girl" than modern girl.
-Use what we learned the last time around.
A little bit of lace, chunky jewelry and especially those bright colours go a long way.
"A neon jacket with a miniskirt and a leopard belt? That's a no," says Gloria Baume, Teen Vogue fashion director.
-A look from the ages is not necessarily for all ages.
Foroutan warns you at least need a youthful spirit to pull off any of the looks. Without setting a hard age limit, you should take a second look in the mirror if you were old enough to wear to class a "Frankie Says Relax" T-shirt.
-Don't be so literal.
Even fashion designers struggle with the right balance when it comes to revisiting this decade. Baume's advice: "Always mix it with something classic, which is the unexpected. Don't put '80s with '80s. Put it with something prim and proper, or preppy

Tween podcast:: Smart Girls at the Party
Saturday Night Live Alum Amy Poehler just launched her latest project! Aimed at tweens, it is not a TV show, but a mobile podcast show!
The digital series "Smart Girls at the Party," is downloadable at Onnetworks.com. Each episode is a conversation between Poehler and a different girl, from a 10-year-old paranormal fiction writer to a young yoga expert.
The show features “extraordinary individuals who are changing the world by being themselves” says Poehler, who recently gave birth to a boy last month. The series was recorded in HD so it's just as watchable on a 3-inch screen as it is on a 46-incher.
Download the episodes free at www.smartgirlsattheparty.com and through syndication partners including iTunes, Adobe Media Player and other digital and mobile service providers.

Frugality is new trend in teen shopping
With the downturn in the economy exacerbated by rising unemployment, the financial sector meltdown and stock market volatility, consumers' confidence has hit rock bottom and their desire to spend is in a freeze mode. And with this happening just on the verge of retailers' critical holiday shopping season, some industry analysts predict this will be the worst season in at least 17 years.
The consumer "has changed," said Bob Shearer, chief financial officer of the top U.S. apparel company VF Corp. , in an interview. "It really didn't matter what income level you were. Consumers just become much more cautious. We are seeing that softening across the board."
One of the most telling signs about the widespread crack in the traditionally resilient consumer confidence can be found in the changing behavior of teens, a usually recession-proof demographic.
They also are going out and eating out less and said they are limiting the number of items they purchase as their part-time hours are cut back and parents are giving them less spending money. Teen retailers such as American Eagle Outfitters Inc. and Abercrombie & Fitch Co. have reported double-digit declines in sales at stores open at least a year.
"They've been cutting back on my hours," said 18-year-old William Restrepo from Jackson Heights, N.Y., referring to his delivery job. "I was out every day in the past. Now two or three times a week. No more. As soon as you are out, you are going to spend money."
The younger tween set, typically those between 8 and 12 who rely on their parents, also are learning their lessons.
"My mom goes straight to the sale racks" at Abercrombie and Hollister, said nine-year-old Tracy Imhof from Astoria, shopping at the Queens mall with her friend and mom.
She also received a new rule: If it's something that her mother thinks is frivolous, the money will have to come out of her pocket money.
"How many Abercrombie sweatshirts can she have?" said Susan McManus, Tracy's mother and a 51-year old nurse from Sunnyside, N.Y. "I tell her 'let's try to buy something that we really need.' I'm starting to worry. In the past, I usually pay for everything if she brings a friend, but not any more."

Donating Holiday Gifts for Teens is Rewarding
taken from Campbell times:
With the holidays less than two months away, one segment of the low income population that are often forgotten are the teens.
We often get toys for younger children and the teenagers are left out.
In California, a volunteer group called "Gift for teens" is doing just that---donating gifts to low income teenagers.
“Gifts for Teens is a wonderful experience,” said Benson, who is looking forward to the week long project of sorting and packing the items at Sacred Heart Community Service [SHCS]. “This project is so worthwhile and donations are key.”
Almaden’s Norma Faulkner is doing the same collecting makeup, nail polish stuffed animals, photo albums, and cosmetic bags for the teen girls’ bags.
“There’s a group of women who knits scarves and another who made 100 bead bracelets,” said Faulkner. “It’s very satisfying project to work on. The teens are often forgotten.”
After the donated items are received or purchased they are assembled at SHCS by the community and the sponsoring organization, the American Association of University Women [AAUW]-San Jose Branch volunteers. SHCS’s teen clients, as well as the Bill Wilson Center and EHC Lifebuilders are recipients of Gifts for Teens.
