Introduction to Social Etiquette

Besides getting the perfect prom dress, there are many other things to think about. If you want your prom to be the best, and I'm sure you do, the first thing I want to talk about is etiquette. For many of you, the prom will be you first formal event. If that thought makes you uncomfortable, it's a clear sign that your socual graces could us improvement.
Etiquette...
...The word has all but disappeared from the English language of today, but at one time, it played a very important role in Western Civilization. Etiquette was how society would distinguish the educated, cultured, and high born from the rest of us riff-raff. In fact, improving your etiquette did much to advance your station in life. It can still do a log for you. Just consider what a fuss everyone makes over your friends with manners; Their "pleases" and thank you's," always gets a "Why can't you be more like...so and so?" from mom.
Regrettably, many teens have never attended a formal dance, and the prom may be the only one they attend for a while. Facing facts, many of you may never attend another formal dance. Lets try to make a good and lasting impression.
Nowadays, most people could use a little help in the manners and behavior department (and I'm being kind by using the works "a little"). This is not just because you are going to a prom but because you will soon find yourself in the real world. And I'm not talking about the MTV show. You'll be going on job interviews, taking business lunches, and other social functions where people will make determinations that effect your life based on, dare I say it... your etiquette.
General Etiquette Guidelines
Here are some general Guidelines that will help you in the manners battle ...or "common Sense" Etiquette
* Think before you speak.
* Try to remain patient with the world around you, and resist the temptation to react when presented with bad behavior.
* Approach life with an attitude of respect - treating everyone you encounter with thoughtful regard.
* Be aware that your actions, both good and bad have a cause and effect.
* How you present yourself to the world is how people see you. your inside is invisible to them. It's not just being a good person that matters, it's how you present that good person.
* Careful planning and a relaxed attitude will help you sail through most social situations.
* The secret to successful social interacting is to make others feel comfortable.
* Have fun while being considerate of others; Don't let it be perceived as a chore. Remember sincerity is everything - so even if you have to, fake sincerity ...Just Kidding.

The Best Accessories For Your Prom!

Okay, You’ve done the big part. A dress is by far the most crucial piece of prom paraphernalia you will need to peruse. But you shouldn’t underplay the importance of accessories. You are a whole package; Head to toe, shoes to hair! So let’s talk trinkets…
The most obvious accessory is jewelry; so let’s start there. Jewelry can play an important part in you prom night ensemble. It accents your gown, and it enhances your own personal style! Whether that style is simple and classic, or funky and daring, there is a bauble out there that makes your statement. You should know it’s important not to wear too much jewelry. As I said, jewelry is there to accent and enhance. Even a beautiful piece may overwhelm the look of the dress. If a lot of jewelry is your style, you might want to down play it this night. Most prom dresses are fine with a minimum of jewelry. Simple earrings and an elegant and tasteful necklace will do the trick. My favorite accessory is a classic set of pearls. They are sexy and they reek of class! And if you don’t have them, you can borrow your mom’s.
But speaking of mom, I suggest that before you raid her jewelry box, or go out and splurge on expensive jewelry, you think of the look you are trying to go for. Expensive trinkets are flashy, “and diamonds may be a girl’s best friend,” but you don’t always need gems to enhance a dress. Consider tying you ensemble together with a simple ribbon. Use the same color for a finished look, or try a contrasting color to make a bold statement. You could even make your own jewelry! Just give yourself plenty of time.
You could even forego jewelry all together, and opt for hair accessories; Maybe clips with Bavarian crystal by UMA of New York.
Along with adding beauty to your look, you should think about accessories that serve a purpose. The weather may be wonderful the night of your prom, but you shouldn’t count on it. And you know what, who cares? This is a perfect opportunity to further accessorize! Add a sophisticated touch with a wrap. Wraps can be anything from a faux fur stole to dainty scarf to a well-placed cardigan. It depends on the look you are trying to achieve. Try a lace shawl or a scarf with a funky pattern. It’s all up to you.
Last but certainly not least, is the ”all-important” purse. A purse, clutch, or bag is the finishing touch to the perfect outfit. And not only is it the cherry on top, but is vital for carrying necessary items. Just remember to choose something small so you don’t have to be bothered with a bulky bag the whole night. Your bag only needs to fit a few items.

Jewelry - Art or Embellishments?

How do we change people?s mind so that their love of jewelry springs from the appreciation of jewelry as a work of art? What may be lacking right now is a face that will represent the hands that make the jewelry themselves. A new Monet, or a Da Vinci of jewelry may be needed to take people?s mind off what kind of metal a piece of jewelry is made of or what precious gem adorns it and instead turn people?s mind towards the artistry of the piece and the skill of the jewelry maker and designer.

Through this, perhaps people will cease to be blinded by the jewelry?s price but will be more appreciative of the way a stone is set and the way every element complements each other. Perhaps, this will lead to a time when people will value a piece of jewelry even if mere seashells adorn it, as long as the jewelry piece?s craftsmanship is superb.

There are a lot of famous jewelers in the world today, but true appreciation and love of jewelry can be attained only by taking the art of jewelry-making and design closer to the public so that people can see past the carats to the art beneath.

The love of jewelry pieces knows no social class or social bounds. Everybody loves jewelry but do we really appreciate it? There are the faux pieces of jewelry worn by children, the belly rings of teenagers, the class rings of college graduates, the engagement ring of newly engaged couples, the wedding ring of married couples, the heirloom jewels from the grandparents. Everyone is touched by the power and lure of this seemingly magical artwork. However, do people really appreciate jewelry as a work of art, or do people just regard jewelry pieces as embellishments?
